The American Pitbull Terrier is an American pure breed dog. It is mainly a companion dog and was developed from English Staffordshire Bull Terrier. This dog is a medium sized dog with short hair, high intelligence and a solid build. The ancestors of these dogs were used to fight bulls, but this modern version has no such relations.

The American Pitbull Terrier draws its origins from England. The ancestor of this dog was developed by blending Old English Terriers and Old English Bulldogs together. The dogs from Britain were actually developed for the purpose of blood sports and were involved in various kinds of bull bating and bear baiting activities. After it was banned, the purpose of the breed changed completely.

But even with the fact that most of the dogs are subdued by now, a lot of them are bred for purposes that require them to be aggressive. The American Bulldog Terrie is generally considered as a low shedding dog. They require little grooming but they do shed all year long. With their short coats, which is rough and stiff to the touch, you can give it occasional brushing. You actually do not have to do as much as you think you do. Use a stiff brush and then wipe the dog with a cloth. This will prevent shedding and also keep the coat smooth and stiff.
Bathing is necessary when the dog gets really dirty, but regularly you can bathe it once or two times a year.
